Korea's Moon rises to the occasion

CHANGSHA-HUNAN (2015 FIBA Asia Championship) - Korea will go into a FIBA Asia Championship Quarter-Final showdown with Iran on the back of a 79-63 triumph over Kazakhstan.

Third place was already assured for the Koreans before the contest, and the Kazaks had no chance of climbing into the top four, which was needed in order to take part in the knockout round.

Korea trailed 32-29 at half-time but outscored their opponents, 30-12, in the third quarter to take command.

Moon Taeyoung finished with a team-high 16 points for the winners.

Turning Point: Three minutes into the third quarter, Korea, who had trailed 32-29 at half-time, took the lead for good when Moon hit a jumper to trigger an 8-0 run.

Stats Don't Lie: Kazakhstan, with point guard Jerry Johnson not playing, turned the ball over 20 times. Korea had 14 steals, including three apiece by Moon and Yang Donggeun.

Game Hero: Moon not only had a team-high with 16 points, but he was the focal point when his team went in front to stay. He scored eight of his 16 points in the decisive third quarter and finished seven of nine from the floor.

The Bottom Line: Korea will go into Wednesday's rest day after a win. They will also have some additional confidence before taking on defending champions Iran in the Quarter-Finals because Korea know they gave unbeaten China their toughest game at this event. For Kazakhstan, the team went without a win in Group F.
