It's Olympic Day! Let's get moving

MIES (Switzerland) - The aim of Olympic Day, which is celebrated on June 23 and takes the countdown to the Tokyo Games to just one month, is to promote participation in sport around the world.

It doesn't matter how old a person is.

Olympic Day is everyone, for girls and boys, men and women. It's about getting everyone moving.

After more than a year of the pandemic, when many of us have been restricted at home and seen our fitness wane or even deteriorate, Olympic Day should serve as a reminder that we have to look after our health.

The day is a chance to start prioritizing fitness.

That's why there's a day of workouts and live chats with Olympians every hour from 7am to 7pm CET on Olympics.com, @Olympics Instagram and @Olympics YouTube.

Olympic Day is also about spreading the Olympic values of Excellence, Respect and Friendship.

The national team basketball events taking place this summer, from the women's continental championships in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia to the four Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Canada, Croatia, Lithuania and Serbia to the Olympic Games themselves, embody those values.

The competition is fierce, yet sportsmanship prevails. And the handshakes and embraces of players from different national teams before games are the norm.

Montenegro's Jovana Pasic and Serbia's Ana Dabovic are rivals on the court and friends off it

If you already enjoy an active sports life, be it playing basketball, running, swimming, cycling or doing some for exercise in the gym or simply going for walks, well done!

If not, let Olympic Day be the start.

Get a ball, find the nearest court and challenge a friend to a game of one on one, or even organize a game of 3x3 which, after all, makes its debut the Olympics this year with eight men's teams and eight women's.

Go for a long walk, a run, a swim or a ride.

The Roman Poet once wrote: "The greatest wealth is health." So take some time, invest in your health and you'll definitely be a richer person for it.

Let Olympic Day be the start.
