Italy, Czech Republic take a step forward in FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike

MIES (Switzerland) - The FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike has been updated after the exciting conclusion of the recent FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers.

With no movement in the Top 10, the most notable climber in the latest rankings is Italy (363.2) who have moved up two spots to 14th off the back of an excellent final window. Head coach Lino Lardo, who was appointed last year, is yet to taste defeat after his side claimed two convincing victories against Denmark and Romania to secure their place at the Final Round.

Czech Republic (361.9) were in the same qualifying group as Italy and they have also moved up a place to 16th. They also shot down Denmark and Romania to ensure that they advanced to their 14th consecutive edition of the flagship event which will be staged in France and Spain during June.

There was also upwards movement for Montenegro (301.8) who moved up a place to 22nd, having completed a memorable win-double against Sweden and Israel to guarantee they will be at the continental showpiece event.

Similarly, Bosnia and Herzegovina (171.6) were big climbers in the previous update of the rankings and they are still in the ascendency. They have climbed three places to 34th as they celebrated making the Final Round for the first time since 1999.

The updated rankings are bittersweet for Hungary (263.2) – winning their only scheduled game during the February window was not enough to secure a place in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket but it did see them climb three places to 26th in the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike.

Due to the suspension of FIBA competitions, an adjustment was been made to the algorithm for the rankings in December by extending the expiration date of past results in order to ensure that results from two Olympic Games are at all times included in the calculations which weigh data from the past eight years.
