Indonesia coach proud of girls' dedication

MEDAN (FIBA ASIA U16 Women’s Championship) - Indonesia coach Andrew Tambunan is very proud of his girls despite the defeat to Hong Kong.

The host nation won three on the trot before narrowly falling 54-47 to Hong Kong on Wednesday.

“I’m very proud of what my players have achieved so far.”

The 40-year-old also admitted that the two month preparations before the tournament were fruitful, and that the players he selected showed incredible dedication and hard work.

“We scouted the Indonesia’s provincial U16 Basketball Championship last summer and invited 35 players for the selection trials, from which we selected the current 12 players.”

“These 12 players proved that they were the best of the lot through hard work and dedication,” he added.

Indonesia’s U16 women’s national team made its FIBA Asia U16 Championship for Women debut in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2013 but finished third in Level II with a 3-2 record.

“In the last edition we finished 3rd in Level II. We will do our best to earn promotion to Level I. That’s our main target,” he concluded.
