Focus on Aminu brothers, Sy sisters on Siblings Day

ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - On this Siblings Day, we salute all the brothers and sisters that have represented their countries at FIBA tournaments over the years. It is the absolute stuff of dreams.

Parents, relatives, friends and fans alike love to see this play out and when you have the opportunity to witness this in your lifetime, you can only look up to the heavens and be grateful for a gift so powerful that it is simply priceless.

Sy sisters have followed a family tradition to represent Senegal

Mame Marie Sy, Sokhna Sy and their older sister Anta Sy have all represented Senegal over the years - something they describe as "very unique".

In an interview with FIBA.basketball at the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 in Mali, Mame-Marie said, "It is a pleasure to play with my sister on the national team because I did not get a chance to play with my older sister - Anta Sy - who also played for Senegal."

Here is more on an article written about sister siblings back then.

Novela brothers (Mozambique)

Imagine coaching and playing with identical twins! If they switched jerseys, no one would know. That was Inaki Garcia's fate as Mozambique head coach during the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers Africa in February 2018.

Ermelindo and Orlando turn heads at every tournament they go to so much that the officials at the game have to take note during the warmup sessions and they love it.

It makes their blood boil with satisfaction and who knows if they keep a list of all the people they have tricked over the years. It beggars belief how a coach handles that much similarity. We wish him the best either way. He needs it.

Hadidane brothers (Tunisia)

Hadidane is a household name in Tunisia. Mohamed and Bechir have been outstanding for their country playing at the highest level and making their nation proud.

The satisfaction this brings to their family is immense and they love to see it. Starting out on the same team Club Africain, the duo went separate ways to feature for different clubs in the Tunisian league which makes for quite intriguing views as both always bring out their A game.

Bechir plies his trade with US Monastir while Mohamed plays for Etoile Sportive de Rades.

It is clear that amidst an ongoing game, they always have an internal battle that only they understand. Ultimately, the customary brotherly hug and an honest look of deep respect in their eyes spells the love they have for each other.

Aminu brothers (Nigeria)

The first set of brothers to play for Nigeria, the Aminu brothers are all kinds of goals. They compliment each other on and off the court and their support for each other is enviable.

Even though they did not get a chance to play together in college, the D'Tigers pair have really recorded unforgettable memories wearing the famous green and white playing at the London 2012 Olympics together and winning Nigeria's first FIBA AfroBasket title in 2015.

Al Farouq maintains that it was Alade's influence that inspired him to play the hoops game and if there is a small way of proving it by mere eyesight, it will have to be that the latter wears jersey number 14 and his kid brother the half of it.

They are now targeting a return to the Olympics and hope to play together at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics next year in Japan. Nigeria is the only African team that has qualified so far thanks to finishing as the best team from the continent at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China.
