Five Africa-born competing for Basketball Champions League title

ATHENS (Greece) - There are five Africa-born players competing for the top prize at the Basketball Champions League 2020 Final Eight in Athens.

The behind closed doors event will run from September 30 to October 4 in the Greek capital, and it will determine the winner of the 2019-2020 BCL season.

It is a single-game knock-out competition.

But who are Africa-born players involved in the BCL Final Eight?

Jordan Sakho (Hereda San Pablo Burgos/DR Congo)

A year ago, Sakho was pivotal in helping the Democratic Republic of Congo to the FIBA AfroCan title, contributing 7.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, and, as a result, he was named to the All-Tournament team along his countryman Maxi Shamba, Kenya's duo of Tyler Ongwae and Tom Wamukota and Edson Ndoniema (Angola).

Ahead of the BCL Final Eight, the 23-year-old Congolese averaged 4.7 points an 4.2 rebounds per game.

Sakho's Hereda San Pablo Burgos will face Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem in Wednesday's first  BCL Final 8 game.

Micheal Eric (Turk Telekom/Nigeria)

After helping Kirolbet Baskonia to win the title of the 2019-2020 Spain's ACB title a couple of months ago, Eric joined Turkish outfit Turk Telekom.

The 2.11m (6ft 11in) center cannot complain too much about his career lately.

Just a year ago Eric, who contributed 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in his FIBA Basketball World Cup debut last year, helped Nigeria secure automatic qualification to the Tokyo Olympics.

Sagara Konate (Casademont Zaragoza/Mali)

A rising star in Mali basketballl rankings, Konate has experienced little playing time in this BCL season.

Although he is yet to play for his country's senior team, the 23-year-old is remembered for his remarkable performance at the FIBA U18 African Championship, in which he helped Mali finish third. Konate was one of the highlights in the tournament, having been named to the All-Star team.

Suleiman Braimoh (Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem/Nigeria)

This Benin City native is putting up some eye-catching numbers, averaging 11.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in the BCL 2019-220 season.

Yanick Moreira (AEK/Angola)

A regular member of the Angolan national team, in his second FIBA Basketball World Cup appearance, Moreira did a bit of everything but the former African champions fell short to advance to the Second Round.

Before his country take on the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers, the question is whether Moreira can continue to collect trophies.

With the games to be played in the Nikos Galis Olympic Indoor Hall, regular home court of AEK, can the Angolan ace claim his second BCL title? A year ago, the 29-year-old helped Italian outfit Virtus Bologna to the league trophy.
