First statisticians workshop in Southeast Asia since pandemic held in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia) - FIBA Regional Office - Asia held a two-day statisticians workshop from April 16-17 at the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) Office in Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 17 statisticians, both male and female, from MABA affiliates participated in the workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to improve the quality of licensed statisticians and further improve and develop the game of basketball in Malaysia.

"This is the first time we're having this workshop in Malaysia after the global pandemic," said Tan Kee Hian, Secretary General of MABA, who also expressed his delight of seeing the event take place.

This workshop was also the first in Southeast Asia since the COVID-19 outbreak.

"Our objective is to renew and refresh the expired licenses of our FIBA Statisticians and also an opportunity for new intake of candidates," added Tan. "This workshop will help to upgrade them with the new FIBA Rules and to further improve the standard of officiating in Malaysia."

The workshop is part of the Regional Office’s continuous efforts to improve the different departments of its national federations, including the statisticians, who are becoming an integral part of basketball games.
