First phase of statisticians preparation workshop for FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 held in Manila

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia held a statisticians workshop in Manila, Philippines from 25-26 April.

The two-day workshop in Manila involved a review of the stats manual and the software that will be used during the FIBA basketball World Cup 2023. It also involved quizzes and tests based on simulation games.

A total of 30 statisticians attended in the workshop which was the first phase of preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup . The next phase will include an online training, followed by an on-site workshop that includes a mandatory test, based on a simulation game to help finalize the statisticians line-up for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 which will be hosted by Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.

"SBP are glad to have hosted the statisticians workshop held on April 26 to 28, 2022 at the Sheraton Manila. All the participants benefited from the learnings from the workshop which would be applicable in the tournaments they will work on in the future," said Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Executive Director, Mr. Sonny Barrios.

"We join the Regional Office - Asia in this worthwhile endeavor as One FIBA," he added.

In the following week, the Regional Office - Asia will conduct a similar workshop in Indonesia, followed by a two-week training during the  FIBA Asia Cup 2022  which will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia from 12-24 July. In addition, there will be a final workshop to be held in Japan between November and December 2022.

These workshops are part of the Regional Office’s continuous efforts to improve national federations, including the statisticians, who are becoming an integral part of basketball games.
