Final of EuroBasket 2015 sets new attendance record

LILLE (EuroBasket 2015) - The fans continued to turn out in record numbers for the Final Phase of EuroBasket 2015 in Lille, France, with 27,372 spectators passing through the turnstiles at Pierre Mauroy Stadium for Sunday's Final.

It is now the third time in the space of 10 days that the record for an indoor crowd at a European basketball event has been broken.

Additional seating was created on Sunday night to account for the unprecedented demand for tickets.

A total of 26,922 fans were in attendance on Thursday when host nation France suffered a heart-breaking loss to Spain in overtime in the Semi-Finals, 80-75.

The Round of 16 game on 12 September between France and Turkey saw 26,135 fans show up in support of the hosts, bettering the previous record of 24,232 who turned out at Belgrade Arena to watch Red Star Belgrade take on Budivelnik Kyiv in the Eurocup Quarter-Finals on 26 March 2014.

EuroBasket 2015 has been heralded a major success, with 711,131 spectators turning out.
