Workshops held in Taipei and Macau to raise level of statisticians

Taipei/Macau – Statisticians' workshops were held in Chinese Taipei and Macau with the objective to improve the level of statisticians in both countries.

The workshops were held on June 15-16 in Taipei  and 22-23 in Macau. It was the first ever FIBA statistician license workshop in Macau.

Both National Federations expressed their acknowledgement of the importance of statisticians and their role in today’s game, as well as optimism towards the results and future benefits of the workshop.

The President of Macau China Basketball Association (MCBA), Mr. Chong Fai Wu, mentioned that statisticians are essential in today’s basketball development as the data can help give teams more insight on what to improve. Therefore, he emphasized that the Macau national federation needed a team of licensed statisticians for the development of the spot and, more importantly, to develop according to FIBA objectives. Wu also expressed how  encouraging it was that Macau has moved a step forward in this area of development.

The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA) had similar reactions towards the expected impact of the workshop.

“Statisticians play important roles in basketball games nowadays because every piece of information comes from them,” said CTBA Secretary General, Li I Chung.

“It is our pleasure to have such a great instructor flying over and helping us doing the workshop in Chinese Taipei. Our participants not only updated their knowledge as statisticians, they learned how to deal with many special cases that happen on and off the court,” added Li.

“With every participant passing the exam, we strongly believe that we can have more professional performance, not only from our players, but also from our staffs that work on the statistician’s table during the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers,” Li concluded.
