FIBA Foundation celebrates International Youth Day

MIES (Switzerland) - On August 12th, FIBA’s Foundation, the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) celebrates International Youth Day. According to the United Nations, ‘International Youth Day gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions, and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement’.

This year, International Youth Day ‘seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local,  national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes’, as well as  ‘seeks to put the spotlight on youth engagement’.

The Foundation acknowledges that young people have voices and ideas that need to be heard. Through its Youth Leadership projects, the IBF runs workshops to inspire youths to embrace their voices and empower them to be change agents in their communities.

On this day, the IBF would like to celebrate all the youths from its various projects and their engagement in their communities. Like the youths from Singapore who have established a ‘Basketball For Girls’ Program or Petrina Aron who is giving back to the Basketball Artists school that helped her through high school through tutoring and basketball training.
