FIBA Europe President Demirel, FIBA Executive Director Europe Novak meet with sports and government authorities in Moldova

CHISINAU (Moldova) - FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak, accompanied by Moldovan Basketball Federation officials, met with sports and government authorities in Moldova to discuss the development of the basketball in the country.

As part of their visit, they were welcomed by Mr. Corneliu Popovici, the Minister of Education, Culture and Research and the Ministry's Secretary General Mr. Ivan Gheorghiu, who is responsible for the country's national sports federations.

FIBA representatives also met with Mayor of Chisinau Municipality Mr. Ion Ceban and Vice-Mayor Ms. Angela Cutasevici, as well as the Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee Nicolae Patac and Secretary General Ms. Christine Vasilianov.

The topics of the meetings were focused on the development of basketball in Moldova, the facility and equipment situation of the national federation and the possibility to improve it.

Mr. Demirel and Mr. Novak also visited the now nearly complete Chisinau Arena, Aqua Center and Tennis Club sports complex, which includes a 5,000-seat arena and another smaller gym in addition to the swimming pool and other sports facilities.

In recent years, the Moldovan Basketball Federation has been active in organizing FIBA events with the past two editions of the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship, Division C taking place in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau.
