FIBA and French broadcaster Canal+ strike up exclusive deal for 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments

PARIS (2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Men and Women) - FIBA and Canal+ have reached an agreement for the French broadcaster to carry exclusive coverage of the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Men and Women.

Canal+ will show the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT) taking place from 13-19 June in Reze (Nantes), France. The host nation will be among the 12 participating teams doing battle for the five places on offer to reach the Rio 2016 Games.

The broadcaster will then provide in-depth coverage of the three FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs) taking place the week of 4-10 July in Turin (Italy), Manila (Philippines) and Belgrade (Serbia). France will be among the 18 teams bidding for the three berths on offer. The winner of each event will reach the Olympics in Brazil.

With this agreement, Canal+ - the official broadcaster of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games - will provide its viewers the opportunity to follow the journey of the French national teams which it has covered for many years at world and continental levels.

The draws for the three OQTs and the WOQT will take place at The House of Basketball, FIBA's headquarters, on Tuesday 26 January (18:30 CET/GMT+1).
