FIBA agreement with SVT uniting Swedish national team with fans

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA, the world basketball governing body, and Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), have signed a new agreement to broadcast the country's national team basketball games for the next four years.

This agreement will ensure fans get to watch international basketball through to 2025 on free-to-air TV. SVT is to broadcast the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022, the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023, the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 and the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025. They also have secured the rights for both the men's and women's FIBA Basketball World Cups Qualifiers and the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.

80 national sides began their journey to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 recently in the first window of the Qualifiers, with Sweden playing two games in the European Qualifiers, getting a win up over Finland Finland and a close loss to Slovenia. Teams will play home and away games across six qualifying windows to secure their places in the 2023 event co-hosted by Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia. The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 tips off on August 25, 2023.

This agreement is one of many that FIBA has announced recently, reflecting a growing trend for free-to-air services to embrace FIBA's properties throughout Europe and showcase national team basketball.
