FIBA Africa set to elect key positions at General Assembly in Bamako

BAMAKO (Mali)- FIBA Africa's General Assembly will meet on Saturday-Sunday 22-23 June in the Malian capital of Bamako.

This important meeting will mark the end of the 2014–2019 term as a new board and a number of key positions will be elected for the next four years.

The major FIBA Africa roles up for elections include: FIBA Africa President, Treasurer, President of Competition and Technical Council, and the women  co-opted members. 

The newly elected members will then team up with FIBA Africa Zone Presidents to appoint the other members of the FIBA Africa's new Central Board.

Prior to the elections, Africa's basketball governing body will reflect and evaluate the actions undertaken in the past five years and discuss the outlook for the coming years.

Over the course of the two-day General Assembly, a number of other topics will be discussed, including:

- The Basketball Africa League, which will be jointly organized by FIBA and the National Basketball Association (NBA) starting in January 2020;

- The development of Mini-basketball on the continent;

- The approval of the Complementary Regulation adopted by FIBA Africa Board.

The highly-anticipated assembly comes after FIBA Africa Board, and its Executive Committee held their meetings earlier in the week.
