MIES - FIBA's Executive Committee met on Thursday-Friday 18-19 June and received an intermediary report by the Japan 2024 Task Force indicating the progress made in the restructuring and reorganisation of the suspended Japanese Basketball Association (JBA).

The task force - a panel consisting of 10 members and two observers, headed by Co-Chairmen Ingo Weiss and Saburo Kawabuchi - has worked since January to solve the problems which led to the national federation being suspended in late 2014, focusing their efforts on three key areas: top league, governance and basketball development.

Based on the progress outlined in the report, Japan national teams have been authorised to resume preparations - including playing international warm-up games at home and abroad - for all competitions including the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship and FIBA Asia Women's Championship.

FIBA's Central Board will receive a final report on the achievements of the task force at its meeting in Tokyo on 7-9 August and will then decide whether the suspension on the JBA is to be lifted.
