Latvia, Hungary and Croatia get rolling on day two in Udine

UDINE (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2016) - There was joy for Latvia, Croatia and and Hungary as they all picked up a first victory in Udine at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2016.

Latvia had been highly fancied to push for honours at the event but looked to be heading for an 0-2 start against Serbia before launching a rescue mission to win 70-61. Mara Mote led the way with 17 points as one of four double-digit scorers.

Hungary had to overcome a very slow start against Portugal to take a 59-48 success and Croatia had little difficulty in easing past Slovak Republic 58-40 - thanks mainly to a do-it-all display from Lucija Kostic who had 11 rebounds, 9 points, 5 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals.

There are also a number of teams still perfect after moving to 2-0, including Lithuania who took a memorable 85-75 overtime triumph against neighbouring Russia behind 26 points from Dalia Donskichyte.

Italy also powered past Turkey, France dominated Sweden and holders Czech Republic made some serious second-half noise to soar past Belarus.

The result of the day and maybe even the tournament so far was achieved by Germany, who stayed unbeaten as they racked up a fantastic 53-40 overtime win against Spain. Leonie Fiebich had a stellar 21 points and 14 rebounds as Germany held their opponents scoreless during the extra period.
