Gold Coast (Australia) - Jacqui Dover will spearhead the next edition of the FIBA Oceania Youth Coaching Webinar that will focus on "Rules of the Game".

The current Referee Development Manager for Gold Coast Basketball, Dover explained that her goal is to give a clear understanding of the rules to the participants.

"My aim with this presentation is to provide insight into the FIBA Rule Book in which we as officials apply to the game, with specific parts picked out and broken down, to enable coaches to understand the rules better and create drills and teaching points to their players," Dover said.

Dover, a former player for the Townsville Flames hopes to provide a better understanding of legal defensive rules that will help coaches in developing their gameplan.

"I am hoping that through this webinar the participants will be able to understand the principles of legal defense and how they can apply that through drills when coaching and playing," she said.

The Australia referee who officiates for NBL1 North and the WNBL, will include specific guidelines from the rulebook in her presentation to help the participants understand the rules.

"I’ve prepared my presentation by incorporating snapshots of the rule book and combining it with my experience as a referee, player, and coach so it’s relevant to the end goal," Dover shared.

Dover explained the importance of knowing the rules especially for coaches that will prove to beneficial to their players and their careers.

"The coaches need to learn the rules, to get the best out of their players they need to understand all aspects of the game, especially the rules as the officials will be calling as per the rule book," Dover said.

"I am looking forward to the webinar and hope that an understanding of the rules goes beyond this session," she added.
