Dolphins past CSPC to lead Group B

SFAX (African Champions Cup for Women) - Nigerian side Dolphins used tough defense to contain Club Sportif Police de Circulation (CSPC) ace Houda Hamrouni and register a 68-59 victory on Tuesday.

The win saw Dolphins improve to 3-0 and share top spot in Group B with InterClube de Luanda.

Hamroudi entered the contest averaging 25 points per game, but was limited to just one point. She was 0 for 21 from the field. Bettu Kalanga Tshiniangu finished with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds, but CSPC dropped to 1-2.

In the post-game press conference CSPC coach Aouij Outail said his team lacked ACCW "know how".

Five Dolphins players scored in double figures and the win provides a confidence boost for the Nigeria side who take on ACCW reigning champions InterClube on Wednesday.

"At the end of the day I asked them, when you get back to Nigeria what are you going to tell everybody you did (in ACCCW 2014)? Then they began to play," Dolphins head coach Wale Aboderin said of how he motivated his players.

Meanwhile, Mireille Nyota came up with yet another top performance to help Democratic Republic of Congo side INSS seal a 100-49 triumph over United States International University (USIU).

Nyota's 31 points and 14 rebounds gave INSS their first win in three attempts, while USIU, who played their fourth game in as many days dropped to 0-4.

Later in the day, Angolan champions Primeiro D'Agosto eased past Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 79-47.

Mozambican international Leia Dongue, in her second season with D'Agosto, poured in a game-high 21 points.

On Wednesday, INSS take on CSPS, while KPA square off against Nigerian First Bank. The game of the day sees Dolphins go up against InterClube.
