Development and Administrative seminars set stage for an exciting year in Asian basketball

BEIRUT (Lebanon) & DUBAI (UAE) - The FIBA Regional Office Asia engaged in Development & Administrative Seminars with its Sub-Zones in Beirut and Dubai in January.

The seminar for West Asia Basketball Association (WABA) in Beirut took place in Beirut on 13 and 14 January, while the Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) was held in Dubai on 17 and 18 January.

The aim of these seminars was to continue supporting and developing the National Federations’ capacities of governance, administration, event management and communications.

It was also a great opportunity for the Regional Office to introduce and present special projects and social initiatives planned for the next few years that would not only help raise the level of basketball in the region, but to also leave a positive impact on all societies through basketball.

The seminars met their objectives and better equipped the Sub-Zones and National Federations to handle the range of initiatives and events that have been set in the near future.

“This was a great opportunity for myself and the Regional Office to meet with the national federations, especially as it has been a long time since doing so,” said Mr. Hagop Khajirian, FIBA Executive Director - Asia. “The outbreak of COVID-19 had limited our physical contact recently and being able to meet ahead of a busy calendar year of events was a good start.”

Similar seminars will take place in the coming months for the Central, South, South East, and East Asia sub-zones.

The major Asian events in 2022 include the First Round of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Pre-Qualifiers (May 31 - June 5), FIBA U16 Asian Championship (June 12-19), FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship (June 24-30), FIBA Asia Cup 2022 (Jul 12-14), FIBA U18 Asian Championship (August 21-28), FIBA U18 Women’s Asian Championship (September 5-11), FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2022 (September 26 - October 10), and four windows of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers.
