Gold Coast (Australia) - The FIBA Oceania Technical Official Webinar series returns on Wednesday (June 17) with James Boyer discussing the 'Referee Module: Individual Techniques'.
Boyer, a licensed FIBA Referee since 2014 has a wealth of experience under his belt including a stint at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, is excited to share his knowledge with the participants of the webinar session.
"I will be sharing a presentation on individual officiating techniques. These techniques are applicable for referees just starting, refereeing 2-person, 3-person, and to the international level," Boyer said. "I have over 20 years experience refereeing, with the last six as a FIBA official, these techniques form the basis of every game I officiate".
The Australian who also officiates games in the National Basketball League in Australia is keen on helping develop future referees for the Oceania region.
"I am looking forward to contributing to the education of officials and the unique opportunity presented to connect with like-minded people from around Oceania. It is great to be able to share my knowledge with others," he shared.
"Participants will learn the fundamental skills that they will be able to apply in their games as soon as they are on the court," he added.
Boyer stressed the importance of individual officiating techniques to refine their skills and competence in the officiating arena.
"Every call we make can be analyzed in terms of these techniques and practicing them in our games will lead to greater accuracy in calling," he said. "I have prepared a presentation with some video clips that I hope participants will find interesting, engaging, and readily applicable."
Boyer who also teaches Physical Education in High School hopes to have a meaningful discussion and build new relationships with this seminar.
"I hope the participants come ready to engage in the presentation by asking questions and sharing their own experience. I look forward to connecting virtually with my colleagues from around the region," he said.
