Blazek delivers continuity for Czech Republic

PRAGUE (FIBA World Championship for Women) - Czech Republic play-caller Lubor Blazek shouldn't have to worry about chemistry at the forthcoming FIBA World Championship for Women after turning to 10 players who stepped out at EuroBasket Women 2013.

However, despite delivering continuity by recalling all but two of his squad from France last year, it is a recall for the legendary Eva Viteckova which remains the main talking point.

More or less an ever present with the national team throughout her distinguished career, the veteran star took a rare sabbatical from the national team and didn't suit up at EuroBasket Women.

Her return will be a huge boost for Blazek and his side as they look to follow up their magnificent run to the World Championship Final back in 2010.

The other player who didn't feature in France is Katerina Sedlakova and the guard will get to make her senior debut in Ankara after being rewarded for an impressive domestic campaign in the ZBL with Valosun Brno.

On the flip side, the last player to get cut from the training camp roster and suffer a major disappointment was Katerina Hindrakova.

However, Blazek was keen to insist that, as one of last three players to be left out, she will be waiting by the phone in the event of a late withdrawl along with Klara Pochobradska and Lenka Bartakova who were released from the camp last week.

"The initial selection process was already challenging for me," explained Blazek.

"I decided this week not to continue with 13 players and originally, I had wanted to work with 12.

"However there were other options, but now I have finally narrowed down the nominations and these decisions are always difficult.

"The final 12 is indeed fixed, but the other three players will continue to operate according to their individual plans and be ready to jump at any time during the preparation, if there is an injury or illness."

Czech Republic did initially have only one more friendly to play against the USA, but have pencilled in a couple of additional preparation games against Serbia.

Czech Republic squad for FIBA World Championship for Women: Katerina Bartonova, Katerina Sedlakova, Romana Hejdova, Katerina Elhotov, Michaela Stejskalova, Eva Víteckova, Tereza Vyoralova, Tereza Peckova, Jana Vesela, Alena Hanusova, Ilona Burgrova, Petra Kulichova.
