Belgian Cats take top six spot in updated FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike

MIES (Switzerland) - The FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike has been updated after the conclusion of the November window of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers, with Belgium continuing their ascendency.

Previously in seventh place, the Cats have proudly climbed into the top six after becoming the first team to officially qualify for the Final Round of the competition, to be staged in France and Spain next year.

They racked up a pair of wins against Ukraine and Portugal to seal the deal and book a third consecutive place at the event. Belgium (598.3) are also now breathing down the necks of neighbors France (640), who are the next team above them in the rankings.

The only other mover in the Top 10 was Turkey (596.4), who ceded their sixth spot to Belgium, after a heartbreaking loss to Serbia left their Final Round hopes hanging in the balance.

With no scheduled games in other regions last month, European national teams were the only ones in action in November, which is also reflected in the FIBA World Ranking.

Finland (109.3) and Bulgaria (139.2) were the biggest climbers in the rankings after they shot up eight and six places respectively. The Susiladies beat Portugal to move from 66th to 58th, while Bulgaria coasted past Iceland and that helped them move from 50th to 44th.

Meanwhile Slovenia (246.2) are now into the Top 30 after a two-place rise, the same upward movement achieved for both 36th placed  Germany (163.2) and 37th placed Bosnia and Herzegovina (155.7).

It was also a productive window for Denmark (117.4), who gained three spots and are now knocking on the door of the Top 50 after they recorded a landmark first win in the Qualifiers in over two decades.

Due to the suspension of FIBA competitions, an adjustment was made to the algorithm for the rankings by extending the expiration date of past results by eight months in order to ensure that results from two Olympic Games are at all times included in the calculations which weigh data from the past eight years.
