Bachanski continues as head of Polish Basketball Federation

WARSAW - Grzegorz Bachanski will continue in his role as President of the Polish Basketball Federation after he was voted back into office for the 2014-18 term.

Receiving the overwhelming majority of the ballot, Bachanski has been given a clear mandate to continue leading the way and is ready to carry the baton forwards.

"With the new board, we want to fulfil upcoming challenges and continue our previous politics," he declared.

"We would like to concentrate on spreading basketball in our country by good organisation of games by our national teams.

"The results of the national teams games aren’t the goal itself - they are a tool for creating basketball popularity.

"In parallel, I think that widening our professional league was a very good decision and we will continue that.

"We also started a programme called 'Scholl Youth Basketball Centers' and we hope that this project will be entered into the next provinces.

"New challenges await us, mainly related with our national team’s performances at EuroBasket Men and Women."

Bachanski has worked at the Polish Basketball Federation for more than two decades, having joined in 1993 as an intern after attaining a degree in philosophy at the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski in Warsaw, prior to completing a postgraduate study in company law at the Warsaw School of Economics.

An English and Russian speaker, the 42-year-old has been a full-time employee at the organisation since 1996 and has worked his way through all the levels of administration within the federation.

From 2000 to 2004, Bachanski was an Office Director and served as General Secretary of the Federation for 10 months in 2004-2005.

In November 2006 he was selected to serve on the Federation Board for a four-year term.

He has held the position of President of the Polish Basketball Federation since 2011.
