Asia-Oceania teams maintain spots, add big points in FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike update

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The majority of teams in Asia-Oceania maintained their spots in the updated FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament draw. Australia, China, Japan, and Korea all succeeded in qualifying for Tokyo 2020 through the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQT) earlier in February.

Australia didn’t budget but from their position at the top of Asia-Oceania, staying at #2 in the World Rankings with 713.7 ranking points in total.

Japan added on the most ranking points to their total among all teams in Asia-Oceania, going up 36.2 points following this update. Nonetheless, they remained in their spot at #10 in the World ranking and #3 in the region. Korea also remained stationary at #19 in the World ranking and #4 in the region.

 

Despite China earning a spike of 11.2 overall ranking points by going undefeated through Group B of the OQTs, they dropped down one spot in the World Ranking with Belgium leaping ahead of them. 

There was not much movement in the rankings in this update among Asia-Oceania teams, but the Philippines were able to move up one spot in the overall ranking after Bulgaria dropped one spot past them.

The February ranking update is the final one ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament draw and will be used to determine the seeding. The draw ceremony is set to take place on March 21, 2020.

The FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike will next be updated following the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
