Americas Zone Executive and Zone Board review FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers achievements

MIAMI (Americas) – The FIBA Americas Zone Executive and Zone Board met on March 16 and 17 in Miami, Florida, to discuss a wide range of topics and make decisions on future events in the Zone.

FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers
Following two successful windows of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers, the Zone Executive and Zone Board took a in depth look at the accomplishments achieved, and the implementation plans for the June/July window of Americas Qualifiers.

2018 Events Calendar
The Zone Executive and Zone Board received an update on the implementation plan for the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018, to be played June 10-11 in St. Catharines, Canada. A presentation on the Regional Office efforts to secure bids for the Women’s Centrobasket Championship, and the Women’s South American Championship, we're also presented to the Americas Zone Board. Both competitions will serve as qualifiers for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019.

FIBA AmeriCup 2021
The Zone Board received detailed information on the new bidding process and a possible change in the competition system for the FIBA AmeriCup 2021. The Zone Board and Executive Committee established the bidding process and set a goal of naming the hosts of the continental championship at least one year prior to tip-off.

The Executive Committee Meeting was attended by FIBA President Mr. Horacio Muratore, FIBA Americas President Mr. Richards, 1st Vice President Michele O’keefe, 2nd Vice President Mr. Gerasime Bozikis, FIBA Americas Treasurer Mr. Jim Tooley, member and FIBA Central Board member Mr. Marcelo Bedoya, At-Large Member Mr. Eduardo Bazzi and FIBA Americas Executive Director Mr. Carlos Alves.

The Zone Board meeting was attended by Zone Board members Ricardo Siri (ARG), Carlos Nunes (BRA), Wayne Parrish (CAN), Modesto Robledo (MEX), Marcelo Bedoya (PAR), Carlos Beltran (PUR), Kim Bohuny (USA), Sabrina Mitchell (VIN), Co-Opted Member Eduardo Bazzi (ARG), along with Caribbean Basketball Confederation President Glyne Clark (BAR), Central American Basketball Confederation President Yamil Bukele (ESA), FIBA Americas Executive Director Carlos Alves, FIBA Americas Treasurer Jim Tooley (USA), FIBA Americas 2nd Vice President Gerasime Bozikis (BRA), FIBA Americas 1st Vice President Michele O’keefe (CAN), FIBA Americas President Usie Richards, and FIBA President Horacio Muratore.

FIBA Americas President Usie Richards stated, “It was a great pleasure to have the leadership of the Americas Zone together again to strategize and lay out our Zone’s next steps. Our Regional Office greatly appreciated the input and decisions made to push forward in the Americas Zone, with a clear focus on the vision and mission of FIBA in our Zone.”
