USA - Beasley leads Wildcats into Top 25

NEW YORK (NCAA) - Freshman sensation Michael Beasley has put Kansas State on the map.

After posting a pair of wins this past week, the Wildcats entered the latest USA Today/ESPN college basketball coaches
poll on Monday.

There was very little change throughout the poll, as North Carolina remained atop the rankings with 14 first-place
votes and 747 points from a panel of Division I coaches. The Tar Heels begin their season on Wednesday against Davidson.

One of two schools new to the poll was 24th-ranked Kansas State (2-0), which boasts a young roster that includes two sophomores
and five freshmen. The most talented of the bunch is the 6ft 9in Beasley, one of the top first-year players in the country.

Beasley was brilliant in his collegiate debut Friday, scoring 32 points and grabbing a Big 12 Conference-record 24 rebounds in
the Wildcats' 94-63 victory over Sacramento State.

Beasley posted another dominant double-double two days later, collecting 30 points and 14 rebounds in Sunday's 76-66 triumph
over Pittsburgh State.

Kansas State was joined in the poll this week by newly ranked No. 25 Syracuse, which opens its season Monday against
Siena.

The top seven schools in the rankings remained the same as last week. UCLA (1-0) was second in the rankings, receiving 10
first-place votes and 744 points. Third-ranked Memphis (2-0) received six first-place votes while No. 4 Kansas (2-0) was
given the final first-place vote.

Georgetown (1-0) remained fifth, followed by Big East Conference rival Louisville (0-0) and Tennessee (1-0).

Indiana (0-0) climbed one spot to eighth while Washington State (1-0) and Duke (1-0) completed the top 10. Marquette (1-0) is
11th, followed by Michigan State (0-0), Oregon (2-0), Gonzaga (1-0) and Texas A&M (1-0).

Texas (0-0) and Arizona (0-0) remained 16th and 17th, respectively, while Arkansas (1-0), Pittsburgh (3-0) and
Stanford (3-0) rounded out the top 20.

Southern Illinois (0-0) moved up two spots to No. 21, while North Carolina State (0-0) and Villanova (1-0) are ranked 22nd
and 23rd, respectively. Kansas State and Syracuse completed the poll, while Southern California (0-1) and Kentucky (1-1) fell from the
rankings after posting losses in the first week of play.
