NGR - Olympic Solidarity Coaching Clinic reports (2005)

NIGERIA (Olympic Solidarity Coaching Clinics) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) in association with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) organised a Level 2 intermediate technical course on behalf of the Nigeria Basketball Federation which was conducted by FIBA expert Mr Mario de Sisti (ITA).

The course was held from 3rd to 12th  October 2005 and counted 18 participants in total. The organisation was very good and the accommodations were excellent. The last clinic was held in 1998.

It was a pleasure for De Sisti to work there as the coaches were very motivated and enthusiastic. Resources were plentiful and access was given to video equipment which allowed them to see the 2001 Argentinean World Championship -Nigeria versus Israel.

It is important to note that Nigeria already hosts a school for coaches who teach soccer, handball, basketball, and volley-ball.

According to De Sisti the Nigeria basketball federation needs to organize more clinics for young coaches. De Sisti feels that one a year would yield the best results from the young coaches.
