In the first meeting of the new FIBA Europe Board, held today in Munich, José Luis Sáez was unanimously elected as one the two male members who will represent the continental division of the top world organization; the third spot is reserved for a female member.
 
Jose Luis Saez has been The Spanish Basketball Federation president for a year and a half, and just fifteen days ago he was re-elected as a FIBA Europe Board member for for the second year in a row. As of today he is now a member of FIBA.

The guidelines state that along with the FIBA Europe President, three more members should be elected from the old continent, including one woman. Along with Jose Luis Saéz, Iván Maenini and Marion Gretel were also elected. The FEB President was very excited to hear of his nomination: "To represent 50 european countries is something to be proud of and represents the value of Spanish basketball on a world-wide level. I never could have hoped that in such a short amount of time I would have reached the highest level world-wide in basketball. For me it is something to be proud of and I will be thrilled to take part in this role. What's more, I am very happy that all Spanish representatives that we presented were elected to the commissions. " affirmed the highest-ranked federation member.

José Luis Sáez also wanted to affirm that, ¨We all share in the interest that the Spanish Government has shown, so that the Spanish Sports Directors are able to reach such high levels among international groups¨. The first meeting that The Central World FIBA Committee, which includes 212 countries, will hold is set to coincide with the World Conference in Tokyo next August.

The candidates presented by The Spanish Basketball Federation have been elected to different commissions of the continental division of FIBA. José Antonio Montero, Betty Cebrián, Elvira Andrés, Tomás González, Víctor Mas and Alberto Gómez will work in the next four years for European basketball.

Among the Spanish candidates in the FIBA Europe commissions, Betty Cebrián, the female player with the most international fame, will form part of the Women's Commission. Another ex-player, José Antonio Montero, is set to return to the Competitions Commission. The FEB general secretary, Elvira Andrés, has been elected to the Appeals Commission, while the head of Group 1 referees, Víctor Mas, will be a member of the Technical Commission of FIBA Europe. Lastly, Tomás González and Alberto Gómez will be a part of the Legal and Youth commissions, respectively.
