FIBA - FIBA mourns passing of Coaching Instructor Marijan Novovic

MIES - FIBA was sad to hear of the passing of FIBA Instructor Marijan Novovic after a short illness earlier this month. He was 66 years old.

A former player, Novovic became a FIBA Coaching Instructor in 1994. Over the years, he conducted clinics in Yemen, Slovakia, Georgia, Sudan, Cameroon, Chad, Rwanda, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Cote d'Ivoire, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, North Korea, Uzbekistan Myanmar, India, Gabon and Italy.

In his playing days, he spent 13 seasons with OKK Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia, before finishing his playing career with Belgian side Stronbek.

Novovic then moved into coaching and took charge of club sides in Europe, including Racing Paris, Radnicki, Belgrade, OKK Belgrade and Facilizing/Caserta.

He also coached the senior national teams of Gabon and Tunisia and the U22 national team of North Korea.

The native of Belgrade served as Director of Development for young players for the Yugoslavian Basketball Federation for five years.

Novovic dedicated his life to basketball and his valuable contribution will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Ivana and their two children.
