CHI - Concepion in sole command

VALDIVIA (Dimayor) - Universidad de Concepcion have taken the lead in the second stage of the Chilean Dimayor league with a 83-70 victory over third-placed Valdiva 83-70.

The win lifts Cipriano Nunez’s side above Osorno who, before the weekend’s matches, shared pole position but fell to a surprising 114-108 home-defeat to Liceo Mixto.

Twenty-six top-scoring points by Ruben Nembhard and an 18-point contribution from Evandro Arteaga paved the way for the league leaders on Saturday night.

Osorno suffered from the 27 points netted by Terrence Hill and 23 from Rodrigo Espinoza in Liceo.

They are now one point point behind the leaders in the standings.

Earlier on Friday, both top-teams claimed triumphs.

Universidad de Concepcion saw off bottom-placed Deportes Temuco 83-73 with Djibril Kante netting 20.

Osorno, meanwhile, had no mercy for the reigning champions Universidad Catolica, dishing out a 108-79 hammering. Christopher Jeffries was superb with 31
points.

Before losing to Universidad de Concepcion, Valdivia dismissed Deportivo Espanol 105-98.

William Drudi poured in 37 points for the winners, who sit in third two points off the pace.

On Friday, Liceo Mixto lost 91-90 to Provincial Llanquihue in Puerto Varas to remain fourth with 26.5 points, just half a point more than Boston College, who claimed two wins over the weekend.

Carlos Alvarez’s side saw-off eighth-placed Ancud 99-79 on Friday, with an excellent performance from the Eduardo Marechal-Adriano Machado duo, with 22 points each.

On Saturday, Anthony Bishop’s 30 top-scoring points helped Boston College defeat Castro 79-73.

Elsewhere, Puente Alto climbed off the bottom having defeated Castro 85-72 and Ancud 97-82, while Temuco defeated Depotivo Espanol 91-86 and Universidad Catolica edged Provincial Llanquihue 69-67 to be seventh.
