3x3 - Triple Slam in Namibia

WINDHOECK (3x3 Basketball) - Spartans Africa School of Sports in Namibia has worked hard since it's beginning in 2002 to develop life skills for youth through sports and in particular by organizing 3x3 events.

This nonprofit organization helps disadvantaged and underprivileged youth live their dreams by sharing with them the value of physical activity and giving them hope of a better and more balanced future.

Every year on the 21st of March to commemorate their independence they sponsor an event entitled "Triple Slam" since it includes Basketball, Music and Dancing, make it a fun and thrilling activity for all ages.

Through the years their list of partners has grown considerably with a total number of 17.

This goes to show how strongly everyone feels about such an initiative and because of the huge support that the Spartans have, they foresee big plans for the near and not so distant future.

Hearing about the initiatives taken by FIBA to take 3x3 Basketball from the streets to the Olympics, they plan to have an independent tournament in December. With a desire to become a FIBA partner by then in order to benefit from their support.

2012 is going to be a big year for FIBA 3x3 Basketball with the launching of the World Tour, one wouldn't be surprised to see Namibia as a possible venue site. To think that it all started nine years ago this is literally a rags to riches story, in a very basketball kind of way.
