'This is just the beginning': Uruguay establishes YDP program

MIAMI (United States) - The Uruguayan Basketball Federation (FUBB) made a Youth Development Program (YDP) available to their young players. The program aims to organize, train and develop players, coaches and organizations, in order to promote the discipline of basketball.

Coaches, players, clubs and those who wish, can access the guide through a web link (click here). This website offers different development resources such as technical-tactical, physical, medical-nutritional and psychological.

It was developed, designed and edited by FUBB and is the result of a multidisciplinary work proposed and commissioned by their president Ricardo Vairo. The program is directed and coordinated by the director of national teams, the Argentine coach Rubén Magnano, in collaboration with the national teams staff.

“We want to try to have order in the way we work, but this is far from being an imposition for coaches and clubs. We want to exchange ideas and discuss to enrich this program. The creation of this surged through the pandemic as we began to work on a guide with recommendations for training and this is what we’ve accomplished,” explained coach Marcelo Capalbo, coordinator of the men's training categories of Uruguay.

“This is just the beginning. Our vision includes visiting various places around the country to be close to the coaches and clubs and to continue nurturing the entire program in those different areas,” said Capalbo, considered one of the most important players in the history of the South American country.
