Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia Finals matchup set after Day 3

PAPUA NEW GUINEA (FIBA Melanesia Basketball Cup 2017) – Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia have progressed to the FIBA Melanesia Basketball Cup 2017 Final. They will battle it out for the first ever Melanesia Cup will qualify for the 2019 Pacific Games.

New Caledonia has capped off a great few days of play with a win against Solomon Islands to secure a spot in the Melanesia Cup Final. Building off a solid first half, New Caledonia was able to push the final margin out to 35 points. After a sub-par performance in the 2015 Pacific Games, New Caledonia will be extremely happy to have a chance at revenge in 2019. They will just as eager to get a final win and take home the cup.

Papua New Guinea has asserted their dominance on the competition by taking home a 34 point win against Fiji. This was set to be the matchup of the tournament but PNG showed why they are undefeated by putting on a display against the 2015 Pacific Game silver medallists. PNG will now face New Caledonia for a shot at keeping the cup at home.
