Fiji looking to make their way back to the Pacific Games with the first-ever Melanesia Cup

FIJI - The Fiji National Men’s coach, Frank Saketa believes his players are looking strong and capable of taking home the first-ever Melanesia Cup.

"We've been working hard over the last six months to prepare the side for the Melanesian Cup," said Saketa. "The players know how important this tournament is and their current form is reflective of that," he said.

“They’re moving fast around the court and have a determination I haven’t seen in them before. We’re looking forward to giving the men the opportunity to play basketball at this higher level and play it really well.”

Basketball Fiji’s Chief Operating Officer Laisiasa Puamau mirrored Coach Saketa's statement.

“They look really strong and connected as a team and we believe this will get them across the line,” he said.

Filled with Pacific Games experience, this Fiji team should be in good standing to push for not only a 2019 Pacific Games qualifications spot but to be holding the Melanesia Cup at the end of the event.
