Day 1: Flamengo win, Cimarrones stun Hebraica in Liga Sudamericana opening day

QUIBDO (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana) – In a day of comebacks, the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2017 started group-play with stunning wins for Flamengo of Rio de Janeiro and host Cimarrones.

Trailing by 11-points entering the fourth quarter, Flamengo of Rio de Janeiro dominated the fourth quarter 24-12 to win the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2017 opener against San Martin de Corrientes, 76-75. Following on a Marquinhos three-pointer that tied the score at 73, Ronald Ramon hit another shot from long range and gave the Brazilian team the lead with 47 seconds to go. San Martin’s Lucas Faggiano closed the gap to a one-point difference, as the Flamengo advantage remained when time expired.

San Martin shot the ball better from the field, and was led offensively by 13 points from Lucas Faggiano. Ronald Ramon led the scoring for the team from Rio de Janeiro with 21 points.

After being down for most of the first three quarters, host Cimarrones stunned the competition with a 78-72 win over Hebraica Macabi. With the offensive power of Michael Jackson, the home team climbed back from a 11-point difference with a 25-15 fourth quarter. Cimarrones added 15 points in second chances and converted Hebraica’s 20 turnovers into 18 points. Michael Hicks led the way for Hebraica with a 20-point night, but Cimarrones closed the game better.

Tomorrow on the second day of Group A, Hebraica Macabi will face Flamengo and San Martin de Corrientes will face the host Cimarrones.
