San Lorenzo to host first Semi-Final of DIRECTV Liga de las Américas 2018

BUENOS AIRES (DIRECTV Liga de las Américas) - The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for the Americas confirmed that Polideportivo Roberto Pando, the house of Argentine basketball club the San Lorenzo basketball club, located in the city of Buenos Aires, will host the first Semi-Final of DIRECTV Liga de las Américas 2018.

The first Semi-Final will take place on March 2-4 and will feature Mogi das Cruzes (Brazil), Fuerza Regia (Mexico), Ferro (Argentina) and San Lorenzo (Argentina).

The calendar for this four-team series has been organized as follows (times will be confirmed soon):

March 2
Ferro (ARG) vs Mogi Das Cruzes (BRA)
San Lorenzo (ARG) vs Fuerza Regia (MEX)

March 3
Fuerza Regia (MEX) vs Ferro (ARG)
Mogi Das Cruzes (BRA) vs San Lorenzo (ARG)

March 4
Mogi Das Cruzes (BRA) vs Fuerza Regia (MEX)
Ferro (ARG) vs San Lorenzo (ARG)

The best two teams will continue to the Final 4 of DIRECTV Liga de las Américas 2018, which will take place on March 24 and 25, in a locality that is yet to be confirmed.

“It is cause for great satisfaction to announce that San Lorenzo will host our first Semi-Final of DIRECTV Liga de las Américas 2018 —the continent's most important international basketball club competition. We are confident that the two-time champions of the Liga Nacional de Argentina will present a display of the highest level for the enjoyment of all of those who love our sport. It will also write a new page in the history of the competition of clubs in the Americas,” stated FIBA Américas President, Mr. Usie Richards.

Meanwhile, San Lorenzo’s Vice-President, Marcelo Tinelli, said: “I wish to thank FIBA Américas for choosing San Lorenzo to welcome an event of such importance. I am profoundly proud of being able to organize a quadrangular at our home for the second year in a row. I am convinced that it is a positive contribution for our public, Argentine Basketball and the sport’s fans in general. We are aware of the challenge it is to do it better; for FIBA Américas to have the event it deserves.”

DIRECTV Liga de las Américas 2018 is currently in the last stages of its Group Phase, which will conclude this weekend with Group D in Bauru, Brazil, and from which the competition's last semi-finalists will be defined. Once the group is over, the official call will be opened for the qualified teams and the host for the second Semi-Final will be announced. Argentine clubs Regatas Corrientes and Estudiantes de Concordia qualified from Group C.

The first Semi-Final of DIRECTV Liga de las Américas will be broadcast by DIRECTV (South America), SporTV (Brazil), SKY (Mexico) and around the world through livebasketball.tv (subscription required).
