San Lorenzo and Mogi das Cruzes triumphantly move on to Semis

TALCA (DIRECTV Liga de las Américas) -The eleventh edition of Liga de las Américas’ Group B is over, and we now know the two new teams that qualified to the Semi-Finals: San Lorenzo, from Argentina; and Mogi das Cruzes, from Brazil. The Argentine team ended this phase with a perfect record, while the Brazilians continued forward with 2 victories and 1 defeat.

In the day's first game, San Lorenzo and Paulistano played an excellent match that was only untied during the last minutes by Gonzalo García's squad. Like this, the Argentine team confirmed what was speculated in the pre-game analysis; they overcame their three rivals, even though the Brazilians cost them a greater effort. After 29 changes in score lead, San Lorenzo took the victory home, 87-82.

For the winning side, Gabriel Deck was once again the most notable player, with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Another one who had a great encounter was point guard Nicolás Aguirre, with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. For the losing side - who were eliminated from the competition although they showcased a high-performance level - Deryk Ramos was not only the most outstanding, but also the game's greatest scorer, with 27 points (5 triples).

At the day’s second game, Mogi das Cruzes took advantage of the opportunity left by the first game’s result and defeated Español with an overwhelming 105-69. The Brazilian team recovered from their initial defeat like this and reached their well-deserved ticket to the next phase.

The wide difference between Guerrinha’s team over Schamberger’s was evidenced from the game's beginning. The Brazilians intelligently used the Chileans’ turnovers (24 points were achieved like this) and dominated all aspects of the game. Among the most noteworthy performances was Tyrone Curnell’s, who once again showed off with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Other five Mogi players made 10 or more points. For the Chilean squad, Venezuelan Javinger Vargas outstood with his 13-points.

Now, with four teams qualified to Semi-Finals (Ferro, Fuerza Regia, San Lorenzo and Mogi), Liga de las Américas will continue Friday, February 2 in Corrientes, Argentina. It will feature hosts Regatas, as well as Estudiantes de Concordia (Argentina), Leones de Ponce (Puerto Rico), and Hebraica Macabi (Uruguay).
