DIRECTV Liga de las Americas 2018 Groups and dates announced

SAN JUAN (DIRECTV Liga de las Americas 2018) - The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas confirmed the groups, hosts and dates of the 2018 edition of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas.

The competition will begin on January 29 in Monterrey, Mexico. The groups have been configured as follows:

Group A - Monterrey, Mexico - January 19-21
Fuerza Regia (Mexico)*
Ferro (Argentina)
Soles de Mexicali (Mexico)
Capitanes de Arecibo(Puerto Rico)

Group B - Talca, Chile - January 26-28
Español de Talca (Chile)*
San Lorenzo (Argentina)
Mogi das Cruzes (Brazil)
Paulistano (Brazil)

Group C - Corrientes, Argentina - February 2-4
Regatas Corrientes (Argentina)*
Estudiantes de Concordia (Argentina)
Leones de Ponce (Puerto Rico)
Hebraica y Maccabi (Uruguay)

Grupo D - Bauru, Brasil - February 9-11
Bauru (Brazil)*
San Salvador BC (El Salvador)
Correcaminos (Panama)
Guaros de Lara (Venezuela)

"The DIRECTV Liga de las Americas arrives at a new chapter with 16 clubs from 9 countries, competing to be crowned continental champions. We thank Monterrey, Talca, Corrientes and Bauru for their commitment to host our competition at the highest level and giving basketball fans around the globe the opportunity to enjoy our league and the elite clubs that will represent their respective leagues and countries. In the Group Phase, teams were divided into four (4) groups of four (4) and will play in round robin format during three (3) days. The top two teams (2) from each group will then qualify to the Semifinal Phase.

In the Semifinal Phase, the eight (8) teams will be divided into two (2) groups of four (4) where they will play in a round-robin. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Final Four, where the competition champion will be determined.

Guaros de Lara from Venezuela is the defending champion of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas, after winning back-to-back championships in the 2016 and 2017 editions of the continental league.
