Guaros wins DIRECTV Liga de las Americas 2017 title for 'back-to-back' championships

BARQUISIMETO (DIRECTV Liga de las Americas) - Guaros de Lara celebrated its second title of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas with a win over Weber Bahía Basket 88-65, in the Final of the 2017 continental league.

The game began as expected, the teams sought to establish their rhythm and each team did through passages. The internal game of Guaros de Lara took center stage, while Bahia big men ran into foul trouble. Gregory Echenique and Néstor Colmenares took full advantage of that factor and began to produce effectively for the host.

Bahia showed tenacity and remained close on the scoreboard with the high offensive production from Máximo Fjellerup, Juan Pablo Vaulet and Jamaal Levy, but the local found another factor that helped them make a difference. Guaros shot for a 55 percent from long range and by that route found advantage in the scoreboard against a team from that could not find answers.

Guaros took full advantage of the home-crowd and sentenced the game, to celebrate its back-to-back championships in the Domo Bolivariano de Barquisimeto.

Zackary Graham was selected as the "Argentina World Friendly" MVP of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas after averaging 16.8 points per game during the competition and adding 20 points in the Final against Bahía Basket.

In the history of the continental league, Guaros de Lara (Venezuela) and Peñarol de Mar de Plata (Argentina) are the only teams to capture two titles of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas, but Guaros de Lara is the only one to do so consecutively.
