Who will be next to qualify for the Second Round on Gameday 5?

MUNICH (Germany) - Four gamedays done, four teams already through to the FIBA Europe Cup Second Round so far with plenty to be decided over the upcoming two weeks.

Avtodor Saratov, Bahcesehir College, Legia Warszawa and London Lions all secured top-two finishes in their respective groups on Gameday 4 as the quartet all moved to perfect 4-0 records in the Regular Season.

Here's a look through each group to see who could join them this week:

1 LOND London Lions 4 4 0 100 323 266 57 80.8 66.5 8
2 BAYR medi Bayreuth 4 3 1 75.0 335 304 31 83.8 76 7
3 DONAR Donar Groningen 4 1 3 25.0 280 320 -40 70 80 5
4 KAPF Kapfenberg Bulls 4 0 4 0 292 340 -48 73 85 4

medi Bayreuth can avoid any final game drama if they beat Donar Groningen with a chance to join unbeaten group leaders London Lions in the next round. Not only do Groningen have to win in Germany, but they also have to at least match the seven-point differential from the previous meeting due to the head-to-head tie-breaker, which is now their only avenue of progression. Meanwhile, not to be for Kapfenberg Bulls with back-to-back four-point losses ending any hopes of making it through.

Wednesday, November 10
Kapfenberg Bulls v London Lions (Previous meeting: London Lions won 68-58)
medi Bayreuth v Donar Groningen (Previous meeting: medi Bayreuth won 71-64)

Permutations

  • London Lions have already qualified for the Second Round;
  • medi Bayreuth would qualify for the Second Round with a win or if they lose by less than 7 points;
  • Donar Groningen cannot qualify for the Second Round this week;
    • They would be eliminated with a loss or if they win by less than 7 points;
  • Kapfenberg Bulls are eliminated from contention.

Kyiv-Basket hold the cards in Group B with their two remaining games on home soil, but the outlook could all change on Gameday 5. They could be confirmed as group winners or indeed find themselves in a three-way tie for top spot going into the final week. Trefl Sopot know they have to win to stay alive as they travel to face a resurgent Rilski Sportis side, while Hapoel Eilat visit Kyiv.

Wednesday, November 10

4 OPAV Opava 4 0 4 0 318 374 -56 79.5 93.5 4

Aaron Broussard's late-winner put Benfica on the verge of the Second Round last week, but they face a testing trip to Russia to take on Parma-Parimatch on Thursday with the victor claiming the outright lead in the group. A win for Benfica would be enough to qualify, while Parma would only advance if Heroes Den Bosch slipped up on the road against Opava - who saw their slim hopes terminated with a fourth straight loss.

Avtodor Saratov have led the way in the group with four wins from four and their spot in the next phase is guaranteed with a chance to sew up top spot with another victory. They are away against Unahotels Reggio Emilia with the Italian side able to advance if they inflict a first loss on the group leaders - or if Casademont Zaragoza fail to beat already eliminated Hapoel Gilboa Galil at home.

Wednesday, November 10

All eyes on the encounter at Vijf Meihal as ZZ Leiden host Mornar Bar in a crunch clash to determine who joins Bahcesehir College in the Second Round. The Dutch side will be targeting a big win to try to advance, while Mornar Bar know they must keep the contest close if they were to lose with the head-to-head being a potential lifeline on Gameday 6 in such a case. A disappointing early exit already confirmed for Iraklis BC with the Greek side without a win from their four games and they visit the unbeaten leaders next.

Sporting CP and Telenet Giants Antwerp are on the verge of the Second Round, but there remains the prospect of an exciting four-way tie in the group. Antwerp had been 3-0 before a heavy loss to Sporting and have another shot at qualification when they host Ionikos, while fellow Belgian side Belfius Mons-Hainaut will also be looking for a late charge when they welcome Sporting on Wednesday with double-digit wins needed for the 1-3 sides.

4 MINS Tsmoki-Minsk 4 2 2 50.0 331 343 -12 82.8 85.8 6

This group appears going right down to the wire on the final day with all four teams on 2-2 records. However, debutants HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim and Peristeri Vitabiotics could end the race for a top-two finish early if they both win this week with Crailsheim needing to better their previous four-point loss to Tsmoki-Minsk to secure the head-to-head; thus avoiding any potential tie-break options on the final week. Bakken Bears also look to halt Peristeri in their tracks in a battle of two sides with contrasting experience in the competition.

Wednesday, November 10
Tsmoki-Minsk v HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim (Previous meeting: Tsmoki-Minsk won 81-77)
Bakken Bears v Peristeri Vitabiotics (Previous meeting: Peristeri Vitabiotics won 85-83)

Three teams vying for one spot alongside runaway leaders Legia Warszawa in the Second Round. FC Porto have the upperhand in the race following their recent win on Thursday and could move a step closer if they beat CSM CSU Oradea on the road this week. However, they would have to wait an extra day to see if they advance with Szolnok able to take the battle into the final week if they also beat Legia. There is also still hope for Oradea,  but they have to beat Porto to remain in contention.

Tuesday, November 9
CSM CSU Oradea v FC Porto (Previous meeting: FC Porto won 75-63)

Wednesday, November 10
