Overtime thrillers in Oradea and Lisbon complete opening week; Spirou shock Karsiyaka

MUNICH (Germany) - Spirou Basket rounded out the second night of the Regular Season with a hard-fought win over a strong Pinar Karsiyaka side in one of several games to go down to the wire on Wednesday.

The Belgian outfit were paced by Anthony Beane's 25 points with Alexandre Libert adding 23 points in the 81-76 triumph to topple the top ranked team from Volume 1 of the 2019-20 Power Rankings.

Home teams dominated in large on Gameday 1 and SL Benfica were spurred on by their supporters in edging out ZZ Leiden 103-99 in a high-scoring thriller in overtime. Eric Coleman and Jose Silva combined for 41 points with Arnette Hallman posting a big double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds as well as adding 6 assists.

Despite being on the wrong end of the result, there were some big performances for Leiden as Tayler Persons finished with 24 points and 11 assists and Worthy De Jong showcased his star talent with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals in defeat.

CSM CSU Oradea prevailed 92-86 after an extra period against their Romanian counterparts with 29 points - including eight three-pointers - for Barry Stewart in vain for BC CSU Sibiu. The hosts never trailed by more than a single point in the contest and ensured a winning start as they doubled up their opponents in overtime.

Bragging rights in Ukraine went to BC Kyiv Basket as they held off a fightback from BC Dnipro to win 95-88 behind 23 points from Maksym Pustozvonov. BC Balkan also claimed an opening win at home with Mihailo Sekulovic dropping 21 points and 12 rebounds in a close 82-80 success over Enisey Krasnoyarsk in a Group G clash.

Egis Kormend produced an impressive display on the road to stun Bakken Bears for an 87-81 victory. Jordon Varnado top scored with a game-high 23 points, helping his side pour in 30 points in the fourth with a run of seven unanswered points at the start of the final period.

Kenney Funderburk was the hero for Inter Bratislava with a game-winning layup capping a 24-point night to deny PVSK-Veolia in an 88-87 triumph. The visitors had edged ahead in the final minute through a thunderous dunk from Charles Aiken and had the chance to snatch victory, but came up short.

There was more Dutch heartbreak as Landstede Hammers Zwolle went down 88-85 to Keravnos having seen an 11-point advantage wiped out, despite 25 points and 10 assists from Jordan Johnson.

Jeff Withey led Ironi Ness Ziona past Kapfenberg Bulls with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks in the 82-75 success away from home, while Bahcesehir College made a statement on the road with a comfortable 76-60 win at Fribourg Olympic.

Ventspils were convincing 95-77 victors over medi Bayreuth in Group C, while an under-manned Sigal Prishtina side were still strong enough to brush aside Apoel Nicosia with Dardan Berisha netting six triples in a 32-point display in the 93-74 home success. The Kosovan international also handed out 8 assists with Divine Myles going one better with 9 to go with his 22 points.

More sides to enjoy home comforts were Tsmoki-Minsk, as they finished strong to brush aside Levski-Lukoil
