IZMIR (Turkey) - Amath M'Baye had a pretty special year on the court and can look back as a FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 medalist with France.
The Bordeaux native was part of the 12-man roster that helped Les Bleus secure bronze in China having also celebrated winning the Basketball Champions League title with Virtus Bologna a few months earlier.
M'Baye is now leading the way for Pinar Karsiyaka with 13.5 points per game as the Turkish side stake their claim as one of the leading contenders to lift the trophy this season.
We asked Amath to reflect on the past year and share his ambitions for 2020.
What was your top moment from 2019 - firstly on the court, and then off the court also?
The one moment that topped it all was the birth of my baby girl Mila. I’m big on family and I can honestly say that mine is perfect! My wife and daughter bring me so much joy everyday!
On the court, I would say my experience with the French national team. Playing with an amazing group of guys and having the chemistry we had with each other but also with the staff was special!
If you could change one thing that happened, what would it be?
We would beat Argentina (laughs).
How do you plan to spend New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day? Are there any traditions over the festive period you have or do you mix it up?
With family and friends/teammates. I really don’t have any big tradition. It might change now that we have a baby who needs to know all about Christmas!
Will you be making any New Year’s Resolutions for 2020? And what do you hope to have achieved when you look back in 12 months' time?
No resolutions, but I really like what we have going on here in Karsiyaka, so I will just keep grinding towards our goals as a team!
