FIBA Europe Cup Round of 16 field set, Draw on Thursday

MUNICH (Germany) - The teams for the FIBA Europe Cup Round of 16 have been confirmed, following the conclusion of the FIBA Europe Cup Second Round and Basketball Champions League Regular Season.

The first and second-placed teams from each of the four FIBA Europe Cup Second Round groups earned direct qualification to the Play-Offs.

Out of the nine Basketball Champions League clubs to have signed opt-ins for the FIBA Europe Cup, four finished in fifth or sixth place of their respective group and will continue their international campaign in the FIBA Europe Cup Round of 16.

The four vacant spots were filled by the third-placed teams from the FIBA Europe Cup Second Round, with  Alba Fehervar, Donar Groningen, Z Mobile Prishtina and ZZ Leiden advancing as lucky losers.

The Round of 16 will see a total of 12 countries represented, with Prishtina the first team from Kosovo to reach the Play-Offs of a European competition.

The 12 teams advancing from the FIBA Europe Cup, ranked based on their Second Round results, are:

1. s.Oliver Wurzburg (GER)
2. Avtodor Saratov (RUS)
3. Dinamo Sassari (ITA)
4. Pallacanestro Varese (ITA)
5. Ironi Ness Ziona (ISR)
6. Bakken Bears (DEN)
7. Alba Fehervar (HUN)
8. Pinar Karsiyaka (TUR)
9. Balkan BC (BUL)
10. Donar Groningen (NED)
11. Z Mobile Prishtina (KOS)
12. ZZ Leiden (NED)

The four teams joining from the Basketball Champions League, ranked according to their Regular Season results, are:

1. UNET Holon (ISR)
2. Filou Oostende (BEL)
3. Ventspils (LAT)
4. Telekom Baskets Bonn (GER)

The Round of 16 will be played in a home-and-away format, with the two legs scheduled for March 6 and 13. The pairings will be drawn in the FIBA Europe offices in Munich on Thursday, February 7 at 11:00 CET.

The draw will be made with the only restriction that the lucky losers cannot be drawn against each other.

Should two FIBA Europe Cup teams be paired against each other, the higher-ranked team, based on the Second Round results, will have home-court advantage in the return leg.

In the case of two Basketball Champions League teams being drawn to play each other, the teams will be classified according to their results in the Regular Season, with the higher-ranked club playing the return leg at home.

Should a FIBA Europe Cup team be drawn against a Basketball Champions League team, the FIBA Europe Cup side will automatically enjoy home-court advantage in the return leg.

This principle applies for all subsequent rounds of the FIBA Europe Cup.
