Dnipro see off Lavrio in Ukraine; Qualification Round 2 pairings confirmed

MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) – The Oleksandr Mishula-led Dnipro kept their FIBA Europe Cup campaign alive by advancing to Qualification Round 2 with a heroic second-leg turnaround against Lavrio Aegean Cargo.

While the status quo in the other four Qualification Round 1 ties remained unchanged on Wednesday, Ukrainian club Dnipro tipped the scales in their favor with a 76-58 triumph for a 149-140 win on aggregate.

Having been the top scorer in the first contest in Greece, Ukraine international Mishula made certain the nine-point deficit from the first leg evaporated by delivering a 21-point performance before having to leave the game after suffering a cut to his face towards the end of the fourth quarter.

Oleksandr Mishula had another fantastic game for Dnipro

Dnipro big man Stanislav Timofeyenko contributed with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals, while Oleksandr Kushnirov and Pavlo Revzin were the only other players in double figures with 11 points each.

Silas Melson collected a team-high 18 points in a losing effort for Lavrio, as Milan Milosevic chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. Vasilis Charalampopoulos had a disappointing game, going just 2-of-11 from the floor for 6 points and 3 assists.

Dnipro are now set to face Hungarian side Alba Fehervar in the Second Round of the Qualifiers, with the winner of that matchup guaranteeing a spot in the Regular Season.

Elsewhere, there were wins in store for the other Ukrainian club Cherkaski Mavpy, Istanbul BBSK, Ironi Ness Ziona and Kataja Basket, all of whom also progressed to the Qualification Round 2.

Despite holding just a two-possession cushion before their trip to Sweden, Ironi Ness Ziona did not give Sodertalje Kings a chance in a 100-76 victory away from home to lock up the tie with an aggregate 29-point margin.

Mickell Gladness paced the Israeli side to the century mark with a game-high 22 points and 7 rebounds, Tal Dunne filled the box score with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, while Daequan Cook connected on all three of his three-point attempts en route to 13 points.
