Bruinsma and De Jong split Top Performer honors

MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) – Worthy De Jong of ZZ Leiden and Falco Vulcano forward Evan Bruinsma shared the bright lights in Week 2 of the Regular Season, headlining the Top Performers with stellar individual showings.

Making his second consecutive appearance on the Team of the Week, De Jong continued to impress early in the season by putting up 24 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocks in a 90-76 win over CSM CSU Oradea at home, as Leiden improved to 2-0 in Group A.

The 30-year-old Dutch international went 10-of-16 from the field, making all seven of his two-pointers and adding three triples, en route to a league-best efficiency index of 31.

Bruinsma matched his output with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks for Falco Vulcano, who defeated Leicester Riders 80-65 in Szombathely to open their victory count in Group H after an opening week defeat against Szolnoki Olaj.

Petrolina AEK guard Kyle Vinales, Scott Bamforth of Dinamo Sassari and Lukoil Levski big man Deyan Ivanov rounded out the Team of the Week.

Having collected 31 points in an 83-78 win over Belfius Mons-Hainaut, Vinales set a new FIBA Europe Cup season scoring high on 9-of-14 attempts from the field and 12-of-13 from the free-throw stripe.

Meanwhile, Bamforth went off for 25 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds, as Sassari turned around a 20-point deficit in the final 13 minutes of the game to defeat Szolnoki Olaj with a 98-94 scoreline in Group H.

Ivanov was the only player with a double-double among the week's best individual performers, scoring 15 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists and coming up with a pair of steals in a 94-86 victory over Kataja Basket.
