BONN (FIBA Europe Cup) - Having arrived to Germany as a short-time injury replacement at the beginning of October, Latvia international Ojars Silins will stay in Bonn for a little while longer after earning a season-long deal.

The 23-year-old forward proved to be an excellent fit in coach Predrag Krunic’s system and Telekom Baskets decided to keep Silins despite Ken Horton returning from the sidelines.

"Ojars has integrated well and compliments our system. I feel that he is an important piece part of our team and our recent success. I’m glad we have managed to keep him on-board," said coach Krunic in a statement provided by the club.

Telekom Baskets had won six games in a row combined in the German Basketball Bundesliga and the FIBA Europe Cup before slumping to its first defeat in almost a month against Ratiopharm Ulm over the weekend.

"After the season was well underway, I had options to go elsewhere, but chose to stay in Bonn, because I felt not that not only can I help the team, but the team can help me improve as well," Silins told Latvian sports website SportaCentrs.com.

Silins has fared well both on the international front and in the German championship for Telekom Baskets, averaging 12 points in the FIBA Europe Cup and 11.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in domestic action.

"The main objective for the team this season is to reach the Play-Offs in the Bundesliga, but we want to go as far as possible in Europe too," stated Silins, looking ahead at the team's goals.

The Bonn club has won both of its FIBA Europe Cup games against Sodertalje Kings and Belfius Mons-Hainaut so far and leads the three-team Group C with a perfect 2-0 record.
