Semi-Finals preview: Telekom Baskets v Nanterre 92

BONN (FIBA Europe Cup) - Telekom Baskets became the first team to inflict damage on Nanterre 92's perfect home spell in the FIBA Europe Cup, putting the French side in a sticky situation that will require them to pull off the exact same feat in Bonn.

There is only one point separating the sides before the return leg of the Semi-Finals tie on Wednesday, but that doesn't make the task any easier for Pascal Donnadieu-coached Nanterre, who will need to win by at least two points to advance.

After handing the Frenchmen a 77-76 defeat on the road in France, Telekom Baskets took over as the holders of the longest winning streak at home in the FIBA Europe Cup with seven victories on the trot.

The Germans have not only won all of their games at the Telekom Dome in Europe, they've done it in absolutely ruthless fashion, with an average victory margin sitting at 20.7 points per game.

Similar statistics in favor of Nanterre could have been thrown out in the open before the first leg, but a win simply didn't materialize in the suburbs of Paris. However, Telekom Baskets seem to be fully aware that they will be in for a very tough game two as well.

"We need to stay focused, because it's an 80-minute game. We expect a fight at home as well. I hope that our fans will help us win. Nanterre play fast and are good on defense, so it will be another tough game," said the team's captain Josh Mayo, who had 19 points and 5 assists in the first meeting.

Mayo was the second-leading scorer for Bonn in the first game, with Julian Gamble setting the bar high with a 26-point, 6-rebound performance. Anthony DiLeo was the only other player in double figures with 10 points.

On the other hand, there was no beating around the bush on Nanterre's part regarding the outcome of the first game, especially from the team's slightly disappointed play-caller Pascal Donnadieu.

"The result isn't good, but we are not doing too badly, considering they dominated us. We haven't played very well lately, but we need to work hard and progress as a team," explained Donnadieu in the press conference following the first leg.

Chris Warren was the top scorer for Nanterre in the first game with 20 points, Spencer Butterfield added 15 and 6 rebounds and Mathias Lessort chipped in with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals, but committed 6 turnovers.

However, the question of Butterfield's availability for the return leg in Bonn looms large, with the marksman forced to sit out the team's weekend Pro A clash against SLUC Nancy in France due to slight injury.

The second game of the tie will tip-off at 19:30 CET and the live stream from Bonn will be available LIVE on livebasketball.tv, as well as YouTube.com/FIBA.
