FIBA Europe Cup: Tuesday round-up

MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) - There was early drama on the opening night of the FIBA Europe Cup with one of the first three games ending in an upset road win and another going to overtime.

BC Tartu v Oberwart Redwell Gunners (77-78)

Oberwart Redwell Gunners made a big opening night statement in the FIBA Europe Cup with a road win over BC Tartu in Group E. The Austrians had their noses in front for most of a tight game, but needed Derek Jackson’s free-throws four seconds from time to put them over the top. Cedric Kuakumensah led the way with 19 points and 7 rebounds while Jackson had 11 points and 11 assists. Janar Talts led Tartu with 18 points.

Lukoil Academic v Bnei Herzliya (78-73)

Lukoil Academic narrowly avoided an opening upset of their own in Group F as they edged out Bnei Herzliya in overtime. The Bulgarians needed two free throws from Pavlin Ivanov with six seconds left to force the extra period. But once there they made light work of the visitors from Israel, with three-pointers from Ivanov, Maksym Korniienko, and Danny Gibson taking the game away from Bnei Herzliya.

Kormend v Limburg United (100-85)

Kormend ensured there was no such drama against competition debutantes Limburg United with a comfortable victory in Group B. The Hungarians led 28-9 after Devon Smith’s three-pointer late in the first quarter and never really looked troubled again. Lenzelle Saddler collected 19 points while Jordan Loveridge had 16 points and 13 rebounds.
