Elan Chalon, Cibona score big wins on the road in Round of 16

MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) - Elan Chalon and Cibona took a big step towards the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA Europe Cup with road wins in the first legs of their Round of 16 ties.

Cameron Clark and John Roberson combined for 53 points as Elan Chalon sank Kormend 99-78. Clark poured in 27 points while Roberson had 26 with 7 assists. Elan Chalon outscored the hosts 33-18 in the final quarter to build the sort of advantage which will be tough to overturn in two weeks' time.

They broke the game open with a 22-1 run which began with Roberson's three-pointer with 1:44 left in in the third quarter and ended with Ezekiel Marshall’s two-pointer that made it 81-60 with 6:19 left to play. Kormend were held scoreless for the opening 3:54 of the final period before Sterling Gibbs scored a two-point shot. A late miss from Abdoulaye Loum denied Elan Chalon a century, but they can have few regrets about how this one turned out.

Roberson hit 7-of-11 three-point attempts while Lance Harris made 4-of-5 on his way to 14 points, helping Elan Chalon shoot 15-of-26 (57.7%) from deep.

Cibona marked their return to the Round of 16 with an 81-69 road win over Stelmet Zielona Gora. The Croatians outscored their hosts 32-17 in the decisive third period, including a 13-3 run capped by a Nik Slavica basket to make it 52-42. When Domagoj Bosnjak connected from deep late in the quarter, Cibona led 67-51 and were on their way to victory.

Slavica had 16 points and 6 rebounds to lead five Cibona players scoring in double figures. Emir Sulejmanovic had 14 points with 6 boards.

Nanterre were desperately close to adding to the list of road winners but went down 85-84 to Proximus Spirou. Dietrich Richardson’s three-pointer with 68 seconds left put the hosts in front for the final time, with Heiko Schaffartzik missing a potential game-winning three for the visitors. Telekom Baskets Bonn retained their unbeaten home record in the competition this season as they saw off Kataja Basket 91-72

BC Enisey led almost from start to finish as they beat Demir Insaat 91-81 behind 13 points and 11 rebounds from Frank Elegar. A fast start and 25 points from Muhamed Pasalic helped CSM CSU Oradea to an 82-72 win over Muratbey USAK Sportif. Derwin Kitchen collected 23 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists as Ironi Nahariya romped to a 96-75 win over Gaziantep. Khalid Boukichou hit 17 points as Telenet Oostende beat Pau-Lacq-Orthez 95-86.
